Bridgeport Middle School PTO

8-12-10

1.     Meeting was called to order.  We reviewed out PTO purpose and mission statement.

·        Discussed with committee that we will use the funds from the fall fundraiser to purchase the sign for in front of the school.

·        This summer we approached TVA to help us with the purchase of the sign.  And are still waiting to hear back from them.

·        Currently with the funds we have we can purchase the changeable sign. The cost of that sign will be $4702.00, which includes installation.  And he is a local vendor, which means the money we spend will be staying in Jackson County.

·        We will kick off our fall fundraiser, Little Caesar's Pizza Sales on September 2nd.  We will have a quick assembly to let the students know about it and pass out the pizza fundraiser forms. Students will have 2 weeks to sale.  Also discussed rewarding top sales as we did last year.

·        Discussed future goals of the PTO for the school, using the PTO funds to reward students for ARMT-test.  Also an academic banquet for students towards the end of the school year.

2.     At this time we heard from Jamie Heneger on our finances.

·        We have $4,334.65 in the bank as of the August 1st statement.

3.     At this time we turned the meeting over to Mr. Buckner.  Welcome everyone.  Please everyone visit our school website.  Check on your students homework assignments.  See upcoming events, and pictures we have posted.                      BMSTIGERS.COM

·        Upcoming events for BMS - Clean up day for Little League.  Saturday August 21st.  We would like to ask everyone to come out, bring your children with you. We need help cleaning up the field house, the band room and school grounds.  This is our time to get together and have some Bridgeport Middle School bonding time!  We hope to see you this upcoming Saturday the 21st.

·        Open House is August 26th.  Come visit the school, check out all the improvement's and meet your child's teacher.

·        At this time we voted on the PTO officers and discussed each position. It was agreed and the committee voted to keep the officers from last year.

·        I-Core   Reading, Math and Science.  The test scores are in and we need help to improve our student's scores.  So, you may see your child coming home with additional internet homework or a paper copy.  These homework sheets are designed to be interactive and fun things to do.

·        AYP Annual Yearly Progress - we are moving in the right direction.  The I-Core will help us improve our scores.

·        Science Lab - we have worked hard this summer and the Lab is finally finished.

·        Computer Class for 7 and 8th graders.

·        Mini Lab for 5th and 6th graders.

·        Future projects for the school

Lowes has agreed to come back after October and help us out again with the landscaping.

Home Depot has approached us to help out.  Once it is approved we will learn more about what they can do for us. Maybe we can get some blueberry bushes to plant on the grounds!!

We have presented to the school board about removing the sidewalk from the gym to the front of the school and enlarging the parking lot in the front of the gym.  This could give us an 10 additional parking spaces.

Also we requested a pavilion by the shop.  We will need to obtain a picnic table and benches.

Lights in the auditorium - I would still like to see more lighting in this area.

The back of the seats in the auditorium still need to be finished.

Brick columns in the front of the school.  Of course we would have to remove the 1960 columns and replace them.  Widen the doors in front.  We will need lots of help with this project.  I have a meeting with Engineers before Thanksgiving to talk about this project.

·        Would like to talk about those that help tremendously this past summer and the past school year. If you see these people please let them know how much you appreciate their work/help they have done for Bridgeport Middle School.

City of Bridgeport - they have done an outstanding job helping us. And are willing to continue to help us.

Board of Education - provided funds for painting, concrete, and the floors.

Lowes - all the landscaping, the trees, bushes, and flowers.

Cardin Wood - donated the mulch

Troy Brizendine - worked with me this summer, and did a wonderful job with whatever was asked of him.

Jerry McCraw - painted the band room, the auditorium, out in front of the school.  He has done a great job.

And many more that have come to the school and helped on all the different various projects.  Thank you everyone.

·        Tiger Bucks - students will receive this for a parent/grandparent attending the PTO meeting.  They can use these points in whatever class they choose during the current month the tiger bucks were issued.  So don't let them forget about it.

·        And finally Thank you all for coming out please remember if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call me at the school or e-mail me and I will get back with you about your concerns.
